Childish Gambino

Childish Gambino better known as Donald Glover from NBC’s Community is a rapper? Yes, that is correct, a rapper. Community’s funny man finally dropped his mixtape The Great Gambino yesterday featuring all of his latest tracks including his Freak and Geeks EP. Though I have not had a chance to review Gambino’s older work, his Freaks and Geeks EP played a big part into his progression and recognition as a musical artist. His witty yet rough lyricism is enough to keep you immediately hooked. Even through rapping Gambino shoots us with the funny and sometimes nerdy punchlines that works itself in all of the right ways. Even with the humor it is very clear that he takes his work seriously, Sampling and producing his own hard hitting mixes that he ever so shamelessly brags about, such as Adele’s timeless voice over a bass hitting beat.  The structure of his work seems to keep listeners immediately shooting the comparisons to Lil Wayne which I find almost difficult to do. Although Wayne possesses a character and swag of his own Gambino’s vocal/verbal ability and depth of subject manner on his Freaks and Geeks EP could have easily punched the living daylights out of Wayne’s No Celings mixtape using only his index finger. But all arguments aside I am in no way discrediting the talent and monstrous abilities of Lil Wayne. Childish Gambino (Donald Glover) can be easily classified as a triple threat, writing for thirty rock, acting for Community, and rapping, all before the age of thirty.

Tracy Apologizes

Tracy Morgan, American stand up comedian an actor for NBC’s thirty rock apologized early this morning for his hate-filled and homophobic remarks said during a stand up in Nashville. After  making statements such as “gay is a choice” and ” if his son was gay he better come home and talk to him like a man and not [he mimicked a gay, high pitched voice] or he would pull out a knife and stab that little N—. Fifteen people had allegedly walked out as others booed. During the stand up Tracy also proceeded to tell his audience that he does not need to offer an apology. Buzz began to pick up of Tracy’s hateful words prompting Morgan to release a public apology stating,  “I’m not a hateful person and don’t condone any kind of violence against others. While I am an equal opportunity jokester, and my friends know what is in my heart, even in a comedy club this clearly went too far and was not funny in any context.”Soon after Tina Fey, 30 Rock executive producer praised Morgan for his apology and made statements that “this is not the Tracy that she knows” and “for his sake I hope Tracy’s apology will be accepted as sincere by his gay and lesbian coworkers at ’30 Rock,’ without whom Tracy would not have lines to say, clothes to wear, sets to stand on, scene partners to act with, or a printed-out paycheck from accounting to put in his pocket.”

Christopher Webster stage name known as Chris Webby is working harder than ever these days. With dreams to be a rapper since the fifth grade this Connecticut native from the suburbs may be one of the most underrated in the game . Webby possesses an intense flow and rapid work game that makes it difficult to compare this rapper to other white artists such as Eminem and Asher Roth. In the past two years he has released five mix tapes with his newest release Websters Laboratory reaching 50k on http://www.datpiff.com within one week. Chris Webby is said to release his first album sometime this summer and will begin touring July 2nd.
